Waste is a design brief
The things leaving a building are not an afterthought. Their volume, condition and character give the work its starting constraints.
Our story
MadeBy grew from a practical question inside hospitality: if we can see the same useful materials leaving every day, why are we buying new products made from something else?
The answer needed more than a recycling story. It needed designers, operators and local manufacturers working together — making objects that belong in thoughtful spaces and explaining exactly what they came from.

Design is hands-on
Waste streams, systems, design intent and production reality meet at the same table.
Sifting through bins, collecting waste and finding way to create a system that works to turn our waste into functional and desirable products.
Why it matters

“For me, MadeBy is about taking responsibility for what passes through our buildings. If we can turn those everyday waste streams into objects people value and keep, we make circularity something you can see, touch and live with.”

MadeBy by Second Nature
The name began literally: products made by the material streams of the places that use them. It keeps origin close to the object, rather than turning waste into an abstract claim.
That model can travel. Each partner begins with what their place produces, then works through what can be captured, what can be manufactured and what deserves to come back.
What we stand for
01 /
The things leaving a building are not an afterthought. Their volume, condition and character give the work its starting constraints.
02 /
A recovered origin is not enough. An object has to earn its place through usefulness, proportion, tactility and lasting appeal.
03 /
MadeBy connects operators, designers, material specialists and local manufacturers rather than pretending every skill lives under one roof.
04 /
We communicate openly about what is tested, what varies and what remains unresolved. Honest development is more useful than a perfect claim.
05 /
Use matters as much as origin. Parts, fixings and materials are considered so repair, separation and another material cycle remain possible.
A connected practice
MadeBy turns the linear system circular. Connecting hotels and operations with material labs, industrial partners, product designers and local manufacturers. Each brings the expertise needed to move a stream from daily routine to dependable product.
